Just bought this tree exactly one week ago at Kim’s here in the GTA. I have been at work so I admit it hasn’t been under a super watchful eye but I did water it a few days after I got it as the soil was dry. Today I checked it and the soil was sorta dry but not extremely. The leaves are yellowing and it’s dropping leaves now, is this a reaction to a new location? I don’t see any pests.

Hi there,
I also got mine from Kim's Nature 6 days ago, mine is also losing a few leaves, but I just needed to water it once, as the soil seemed to be damp still, so I'm taking care not to overwater it. I'm not sure if you did some research in this forum about this type of tree, but it seems to be normal to lose a few (or most of the) leaves when it is moved from one environment to another (assuming that you don't have a greenhouse similar to Kim's).

Unfortunately, as much as I’d love to have a greenhouse like that I don’t. I figured the move would be the case but I wasn’t sure as it has been fine up until the one week mark. It was a pricey tree (for me at least) so I don’t want to lose it this fast

I’m don’t know the media yours is growing in but they do like it moist. Drying completely out is bad. However, this time of year mine is drops leaves…..leaf drop is natural, although not bare. 50% is not unusual. It’s a question of how many. They like as much sun as you can give it.

Alright, thank you! I started freaking out the second I saw some yellow leaves and light green ones dropping. I read a little on them but can’t find too much info

Hey! Mine is still losing leaves and it’s giving me a mild panic, but I moved it right up my window that faces southeast!image.jpg

Is yours still dropping leaves?

Not really, I think it didn't really feel the change of environment too much here. I was expecting it to drop all the leaves but it is still pretty full, it even got a flower yesterday.

So, since I got it, I have maintained it above a tray with water, every night I check. If the tray is dry, I put more water. The watering has been once every 4 days, only when the top soil feels dry.

How's yours doing? Still dropping leaves or has it adapted to your place well?

Mine has been going all yellow, the leaves are dropping and it is making a bit of a mess. I water when the soil feels dry (not bone dry) but my humidity is at the 30-40% mark. I have a humidifier but that raises it to 50-60%. I can try a tray but I heard that doesn’t do much to raise humidity but I’ll try it

30-40% should be fine. My environment is typically that range. More sun! Your window seems to have blinds which could be a factor.

Mine has dropped 90% of the leaves. I’ll open the blinds during the day
Oh, that's one thing too. Mine is by a southeast window, no blinds nor artificial lighting.
I think yours will come back, but watering is crucial now. Reduce watering as there aren't lots of leaves left.

I watered it today as the soil was almost bone dry, but I don’t exactly have any windows without any blinds. I have a washroom window that has a very blurry/bumpy window. Would that work? The environment is also humid as it’s a washroom

Try opening the blinds, it should get used to lower light levels, no problem. I wouldn't recommend putting in the bathroom because the blurry/bumpy glass will filter the light and not provide the full spectrum light that the plant need.
Now, if you don't really have direct sunlight at least for a few hours, I'd recommend artificial lighting, such as grow lights or CFL lamps close to the plant for 12 to 16 hours.

Alright I’ll open the blinds and won’t put it in the washroom. I don’t have the space for a proper setup, but I may get a cabinet someday. I love this tree. Is there anything I can do to help it come back?

In my experience you can't do much more than what you are trying to do:
1. Make sure the tree is not close to a heater or receiving warm air from a central heating system. Also protect against other air drafts, from a balcony door that is opened too often or an entrance door...
2. Temperature should not fluctuate too much, 70F to 75F is good.
3. Do not move it too much, let it get used to the place will be their home.
4. If not sure about watering, reduce watering and start misting once or twice a day with a light spray, but water heavily at least once a week.

Last case scenario is to give Kim's Nature a call, and see if you can bring the tree for recovering on their premises while you think about what went wrong... Not sure if they do that, but you can try
