This will be my progress thread for my 1st hand made bonsai pot.

I have made concrete pots before but but thats a little diferent(ill post pics later).

I just used air drying clay, which i assume isnt the greatest material to use. I bought some varnish to seal the clay once it has properly dried.

I dont have any delusions that it is good, i just enjoy the creative process.

I plan to paint it a combination of deep brown/red/black.

Let me know what you think/suggestions

It's very, euh, creative? Haha. You will even get better in time ;) And it's better as mine (I don't have any homemade pots).

Agreed. At this stage its more about fun and experimentation. At the very least i have a new fruit bowl or even better paper weight.

Do you think SuperSculpy could work? I have some I was thinking of some non-traditional pots.

I'd like to know too, I picked up a couple of packs to try out but haven't had the time yet. My suspicion is that it may be a bit too soft to do anything big.

First basecoat done. Yes i am away that it looks like it is made out of chocolate.

Just finished Varnishing the pot. So essentially its finished. Now just have to find something to put in it. Im assuming a juniper would work with the colours?

Any suggestions?

Give some feedback on the pot no matter how terrible it is i enjoyed the process haha.

My only real concern with using this is if the paint/varnish will do an adequate job of sealing the air drying clay from moisture etc.

Shouldn't matter if you don't freeze.

Is that a wooden hand?

It looks better there than on the printer.
I hope that's not where the name came from.!
