Banana Peel For Aphids?

Saw a guy on youtube that grows roses. He uses a banana peel placed at the base of his roses if he starts seeing aphids. Says that in a few days the aphids will leave the plant. Anyone heard of this?

A few small 4 inch pots of garlic or a few other items has the same effect, seems they just do not like being around certain things, quite interesting and effective.
