I searched the site and only found a few references to Azara in relation to airlayering.

This plant has been in a large pot in my neighbor's year, for years... Always on decline. Getting shorter and shorter.

Yesterday as PGE was installing a new pole there was a crowd of neighbors with little kids watching all the cool equipment, just a few feet from the pot.

I asked the owner about the plant and she said go ahead but leave the pot. So here it is. A little root clean up and some decent potting soil for a bit.

The great thing about Azara is they form flat sprays of foliage all by themselves.

Makes a great landscape plant, we'll have to see.

That seems to be the question I have for so many new plants. Once they have some style it's "easier" to manage and continue.

My older bonsai were all allowed to grow and lightly pruned.

I thought I would let it go for a bit to see how it responds to the root pruning.

I am open to ideas if you see something. :)

Presently it looks like the best option is to let er rip for the result of the year. Then in spring after hardening off of the leaves, most likely trunk chop down below the first bulge.

This will allow one to create a tree step by step with successive chops, while developing branches once the opportunity presents itself.

You are most welcome. You ought to have a plethora of branches to select from, making this a straightforward project.
