Just wanted to share a progress photo of one of my azaleas. Got it in spring 2013. I am thinking of reducing the apex by 1/3 to 1/2. Probably putting this and the two others I have that are much like it in training pots next spring. Comments or critiques?

It's a little late in the year for repotting isn't it? When you do get a chance to repot, reduce the rootball as much as you can to slow down the growth and get shorter internodes. I would have done the trunk chops and repotting at the same time after/during flowering. I agree with you about shortening the "apex" (cutting the middle trunk shorter). I would also remove one of the central trunks, probably the left one. The two that are there are redundant.

Next spring for the repot. Thanks for the reply. I left two trunks because they actually come out and away from the very wide fused nebari. I am thinking that leaving only one would leave a large blank spot on the back of the tree. But I have definetly thought about taking the one in the current back.
