I've got a couple of seedlings that I've grown from seed for forest plantings. They are definitely challenging to work - having large leaves and long internodes. The good news is that they are pretty much bulletproof. You can completely defoliate them and get them to produce a second set of smaller leaves (still not ultra-small, but maybe small enough for a larger bonsai) - you might even be able to do that twice in a year. Still - the large internodes will make it challenging to get good ramification in a compact size. Definitely a decent tree for a beginner to try out some radical stuff (trunk chops, big bends) if you've already got it. That hybrid vigor!
