In a couple other threads, when discussing zeolite as a potting medium it was mentioned how its CEC is fairly high, including the downside of it potentially pulling nutrients out of the soil, making them unavailable to the tree. The evidence offered there was its use as a filter medium for swimming pools and aquariums.
I had recently heard of its use in aquariums, and have been contemplating giving it a try in our overstocked goldfish tank, since I have some I've been playing with for potting. The above concept got me thinking, though, that it might not be a once and done deal.
Could I use zeolite in my aquarium, theoretically filling it to capacity with nitrates and phosphates, then use it again to beneficial effect for my trees?
It'd be a heck of a money saver if I could find a way to recycle the stuff in this way, potentially indefinitely.
