or better yet a nice air layer from mature tree with bark already established?

A little late in the season for the Growing Grounds (much of their stock for the year has been sold) but they usually have arakawa. You could always give them a call and see if they have something lurking that they don't have listed on the site.

A little spendy, but you didn't give us a budget :)

Just a note on arakawa maples. The don't backbud very well, especially through the bark. So be sure to keep the branches/interior shoots that you'll need for the design of the tree.

While also nice, I'm curious as to why you chose the one on the right as opposed to the one on the left? To me it looks like the left one was a better buy?

I was wondering the same thing. But then when I looked closely, I noticed that the transition to the last section of trunk is pretty problematic. Looks like the main trunk was chopped perpendicular to the ground, and it hasn't healed.

I know it's a question of personal opinion, but I like the tree on the right. The one on the left looks like an oak...

Looked like reverse taper to me but I'm no expert and buying off internet is such a pita

I'm getting treed out for the season and have been working to get merch out the door and on the bus.
If you notice on Marc's website, he has like 3 trees left for sale this season, we can only did so many trees a year.
Even with 3 Mexicans!

That's so wrong!

But....

The other day while we were playing the old....
Walk across the slippery from flour 6in stainless pipe 4 stories up in the silo room....game....

I was thinking there is a little Indian kid somewhere in the jungle who does this shit everyday!

You may think wrong, but Javier, Chico and Polo are very proud of being able to pop a tree out of the ground almost as fast as the machines without making a mess of the grounds!
They are also very proud of being Mexican. I love these guys!
Polo is on his 16th season coming back to the farm!
