I read that cleanly cutting the callous off, reforming the air layer on that side essentially, can help root formation when that happens. Might be worth a shot before lots of grafting.

I thought about recutting after I had it potted up. Maybe I'll dig down and cut that side and add some rooting hormone. One glimmer, I worked and replanted the root stock to see if it will bud.
