Gotta call them something, antlerlike deadwood.

Moved this back into full sun today and took a pic, thought maybe I’d make up for the seedling.195FFF9B-2A9C-4945-8D48-CCC2425BA1CD.jpeg

This was collected probably 2014.

Half barerooted while still in the box a couple years after, just removed a panel, cleaned out mountain soil and replaced the panel closer than it was.

Repotted again this year, roots before and during the cleanout.

A bit more work and the soil level came way down, lots of surface rootage removed exposing some nice trunk that I hadn’t seen before, nice. 43E247BA-27B1-4FAF-9712-81076620E0FB.jpeg

The side that had previously been barerooted here. Pruned flat on the bottom and lots of substrate picked out of the upper level to try to lower the soil on this side too. Overall little disturbance to this side. The surface still has to come down a ways. For now high roots were left very lightly covered to help transition the repot. Some will just die back others will need pruning next round to bring the soil level lower still. 62BD808A-7C5A-4593-983B-8AABC2CB7F20.jpeg

In the pot, barerooted on one side other side only lightly disturbed.

A large branch was removed last year, it originally held most of the foliage but was useless for design. You can see the cut end by the string. the branch stub still obscures some of the best trunk movement and features, needs to be carved way back. CCBA353C-C11F-45DD-B48C-3EB0D97FD429.jpeg

Progressions are wonderful. Thanks for sharing. How are you fertilizing your collected junipers; does it change from year one to year 5?

Hi Owen thanks. It was you who first referred to this as the one with the deadwood antlers, the name stuck.

The fertilizing has changed with this one but only because I changed tactics all around. For the longest time I relied solely on liquid ferts. Around three years ago I started using granular as well. These days everything gets both, no intentional changes from fresh collected to established. I’m all ears of course if you have suggestions on the topic.
