Another new unique bonsai at the NBPM

Interesting full circle for this tree. Variety was pioneered and developed at the National Arboretum a long time ago. The arb is part of the Agricultural Research Service that has developed many disease resistant cultivars of many species.

The magnificent bonsai displayed at the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum often hail from unassuming locales across the world. This particular crepe myrtle seemed destined to land back at the U.S. National Arboretum.

I’d agree but this one has particular significance for the arb since the variety has historical connection to the place. Additionally species also has some say. This is a large substantial tree with potential. Lastly timing is everything. Sometimes you have to take opportunities as they come

Theyve had it a year and it flowered over the summer which allowed them to ID the cultivar
