So I recently collected a pretty small privet plant in my yard and it's doing really well so I thought I might try to gather a few more CAUSE THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!!!

There is one though that is particularly large that I'd like to hear thoughts on....

I brought a yard and a half stick this time. It's hard getting a nice picture because it's in some thick brush but it measures about 3-4 inches wide and maybe 5-6 feet tall ( I'm 5 foot and it's taller than me )

Am I getting closer???

I'm not the best advise giver, but I would (trunk)-chop it now, cut some roots and collect it next year if it's better, otherwise you could do that again untill it's nice to collect.

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time on it. No taper, no movement, and probably not a great nebari.

You will reach a point (I know I have) that you will be done wasting your time and money on sub-par material.

I still like to learn on less expensive material, like free. Just to see how it grows, we aren't all as pro as u guys :P

Go after it brother... Privet will provide an adequate leader that can solve any taper problems in less than a year... They can survive on little to no roots.

Last year and this years collections.. Whilst in leaf and with very few roots..

If nothing else they can give you a lesson in clip and grow
