The city of Columbus, Ohio, has started fighting back against the rapid takeover of Amur Honeysuckle. A vacant lot near my home was bulldozed two or three years ago so I decided to go looking for survivors the other day and found this little guy.

Not much bigger in diameter than a quarter, and held off the ground by two root shoots. At this point it reminds me of a science fiction robot or an orbiting satellite, with the dead branches pretty much horizontal and straight like antennae. 😄

I took it out of the ground with a lot of extra dirt around the roots and set it in the basket 'as is', with some top soil I had filling in all the gaps. I don't see any problems with the transplant, but I wanted to give it the best chance possible. Next spring I think I'll prune the roots down and put it in a much smaller container. Maybe cut the tips of the growth.

Anyway, let me know what you think. 🙂

PS. I'm disappointed with the crappy pictures but my good camera is out of action at the moment.
