American larch progression

Just starting a thread for a yamadori larch I acquired from the New England Bonsai Gardens. I’m told this is year three after collection.

Early this year I repotted it in this rather large Jim Gremel pot. Below the surface the larch has a rather long primary root that goes almost alll the way to the other end of the pot.

It has flushed out quite nicely and I’m beginning to see some extension, but at this time not a lot of the buds are extending. Perhaps it’s still too early?

This year I just want to see how it behaves and keep building strength so that I can style it next year.

As always appreciate any advice on care/styling etc.

Nice tree.
I think this looks like good growth for this one since it has been recently repotted.

My collected Tamaracks have shown me that year three after collection gives very good growth while still in a big container.

Ones repotted into smaller pots look very much like yours in terms of bud extension.

This is expected. I’d Let weaker branches run to build strength while only pruning/slowing down thick vigorous shoots.
