Am looking for a copy of Principles of Bonsai...I know it's a long shot

I'd love to have a copy of Principles of Bonsai by David De Groot. I've never seen it but from what I've read it's something I'd like to read and learn from.

It's hard to find so I thought if anyone might have one to sell it could be someone here. I know if I don't ask it won't happen so even though it's a long shot I'll try.

I have also been looking for this book and it is not easy to find, sold out at all of the major and minor bonsai booksellers. I would also discourage reproducing Mr. DeGroot's work when he is still working on getting a second running out. A man's gotta eat. If we were talking some of these books that have been out of print for decades, that's another matter imo.

I had a chance to talk to Dave DeGroot at our last club auction and he mentioned a paperback version coming out soon.

While your are waiting you might think about getting this book, deceptively simple, yet an extremely good book on styling, especially for folks in their first years. A good complement to Dave’s book.

Its on sale at Stone Lantern for 12.50 last I Iooked.

Het kindly sold me a copy about a year ago from his personal stock, which at that time was also down to the last copies..

Lol, I saw your post and was about to buy the book on the spot. Until i saw it wasn't the same book.

I should have bought it two years ago when I had the chance.

That is the old book Dave wrote first which he based the latest Principles of Bonsai about. @bwaynef and I were discussing how to get the first book earlier, hence the link.

However, I did contact Dave in August 2021. He said, "I am currently working on a reprinting of the book, which is being planned as a complete but soft cover version. It will probably be several months before that can be brought to market."

I haven't seen Dave in awhile. If I do, I'll ask him how things are going. Given the covid situation I may not see him for quite awhile.

You could call up Wayne Schoech at Stone Lantern Bonsai. I'll bet he's got a better idea about what's up then I do.

That's great news! Last time I had checked there was like 200+ copies on the ABS website 2yrs ago....I thought I had time to get one and put it off. I learned my lesson to now get it when you can.

That's where I got my copy last March. Must have been towards the end of the supply.
