Alpine Twin Trunk Spruce

[Tidal Bonsai]

After completing my tasks for @MACH5 yesterday, we went to work on my Colorado Blue Spruce. I wired the tree and styled it under Sergio’s guidance. He liked it so much that he photographed it with his professional camera, and did a little digital touch up. I am so happy with this initial styling!!!

The other cool thing about this tree is that it has some history on Bonsai Nut. This tree originally belonged to @GroveBonsai before it changed hands a few times and ended up in my collection.

I just wanted to start a thread for my new Colorado Blue Spruce. I picked it up for $19.99 at a local nursery. I think I know the direction I’m wanting to go in, Twin trunk, super tall, slender, Alpine look. It stands about 2.5ft tall When would the best time be to do an initial styling of this...

These are pictures last season when I acquired the tree and put it into this mica training pot. In a season, or two I plan on putting it into a shallow and wide unglazed rectangle off set in the pot. Can’t wait to see this tree progress further!

Not a literati IMO, just a good proportional representation of a mature, full-size spruce. I am surrounded by these trees.

I pinched to manage overly strong areas in the spring, and otherwise left it alone. It's very vigorous, backbudding all over and wire is already starting to bite in on some areas! Looking forward to another round of wiring and branch selection in the fall!!!

This old Colorado blue spruce got two years off after its initial styling with @MACH5. This time around, I styled it solo, and I am very happy with how well this tree is developing! It has a very natural spruce form that's very unique from the other trees in my garden.

I like what you have done , it’s starting to show some maturity in your initial styling and has a great future … one word of feedback I have and I’m gonna give a challenge .. is the twin trunk … I do prefer the “V” when it comes to how these trees naturally grow a sub trunk. I think if you can someone rig to pull forward to get a bit more separation, it also could help horticulturally to get more light to the apex so you can even get back budding to elongate branches to grow and fill that negative space on the back side of that sub trunk when you get more separation. Just my 2 cents , your main trunk is ram rod.. the sun trunk should also IMO be ram rod and I think it can get to that shape more “V” than “U” where they separate.. it should also add more “age “ as well. Nice work.

Edit*** and it could also broaden your horizon to rectangular more forest feel co container .

Unfortunately the Maruhei pot was too small for the tree, so I had to go with the next best thing I had on hand. Visually this quality Chinese pot is a hair small as well, but the roots will be happy in their new pair of shoes. I cleaned out the last of the field soil, and didn't have to remove anything to get it in the new pot.

Mother Nature decided she didn't like the direction this tree was headed and killed off the main branch, but nothing else...

At first I was upset, but in this case she had a much better design eye than I did. I am so much happier with the new direction I am taking this tree!!!
