I have a 4mo almond seedling. I started it in doors with a grow light as it was out of season, it has spent last month in funniest window since last month. Now the leaves are turning a copper color. Should I be worried. Don't know the species. Found in a california orchard so mission?

Greetings and Welcome Aboard BonsaiNut!

Trees brought up under artificial light need to be eased into sunlight, particularly if kept indoors. This means to slowly introduce the tree into “real” light.

Likely the leaves got “sunburn” The tree just wasn’t used to the intensity…

The next question is will the tree recover? That’s problematic. Given the tree has enough energy and proper watering, it’s possible the tree will recover.

btw; Please do us a favor, double tap your icon atop the page, the account details then scroll down and enter your approximate location and USDA Plant cold hardiness zone.

Thank you!

Cheers

Thanks for the insight. I guess the question then becomes: ride it out, go back to artificial light until closer to spring, or chance outside in shady area? Also thanks for tip on usda zone (10a)

Condition is not awful, so that’s a good thing. The tree would be best outside in its normal environment. Inside environments tend to have lower humidity and borderline conditions for any tree even at the very best.

However given its condition would think outside early morning light (9:30) and the rest of the time mostly shade for a couple weeks. If that works out, ease the tree into more morning sun and observe again.

Cheers
