Hello everyone, I'm pretty new to bonsai and I picked this redwood up at a local nursery. I would greatly appreciate any advice on techniques to thicken the truck, cuts to make, nutrients to give or anything else you can offer.
Let it grow chop, grow chop, grow chop - that will build taper - if you just want thickness - just put it in the ground, if it will grow in your area. I think they grow to zone 9 so you should be ok. I would suggest, read, read, and youtube
IMO you should let it grow this year, next spring address the roots and let it keep growing, then perhaps in year 3 consider a chop for taper. In the meantime you'll have plenty of time to read up on it and likely buy more trees.
