Here is a tree I started as an air layer and removed in March 2019. It is acer palmatum Ryusen which is a strictly weeping form despite palmate leaves. Several members here have one.
It had excellent 360 degree roots at the time of separation which it still does, they are just buried.
The tree spent 2019-2020 in a container. 2021 I had too many trees so it went in the ground for 1 year. Then back in a grow box for 2022.
Here it is now.
It is nice for the weeping form I am going for to not have to fight upright growth. As the branches naturally fall straight down.
I have found that despite all branches weeping it has very strong apical dominance that must be balanced.
