don't know if anyone else is experiencing this or if it has something to do with my microclimate/incorrect fertilizing, but my stewartia monadelpha has barely turned color at all, with maybe 10% of the tree's foliage at a bright red and the rest a deep summer green (though it has produced buds); I've also two JMs and one has started to break buds. it is a mottled green/dull purpling/occasional red, but with a few new leaves growing out. my other JM has mostly turned colors and has produced buds, but it's the only tree that's being normal/seemingly going into dormancy. all are sitting within 3 feet of each other and are in morning sunlight/afternoon dappled shade. the maples are on a bench and the stewartia's on the ground.

my area has had 2-3 overnight light frosts (dipping down to mid-30s) since the onset of fall, but daytime temperatures have averaged in the low 60s with the occasional 70-high 70s, with nighttime at mid-40s. my current fertilizer regimen is Biogold pellets/few sq inches, with a weekly application of Neptune's Harvest Fish & Seaweed Fertilizer (2-3-1)

Wouldn’t worry about it. Some of my trees are restless with the late season record heat. We had a light freeze the last couple of nights. I left everything out on the benches. I plan on doing that until the end of the month. I will mulch everything in the. Even if there is green left or new growth

any late growth or stubborn green will be erased by December cold. Trees won’t care. If you try to provide extra shelter etc you will make a minor problem worse

High nitrogen will delay leaf drop. I use full strength miracle grow and my tridents are still green while others peoples' have dropped a month ago.

You're not the only one experiencing weird stuff. The lilacs in my yard are blooming!

Thanks for the tip on this. I know it's been warmer than usual but also wondering why my Elm and White Oak are still green when they should have turned and dropped leaf already.
