Hi there!
Over the winter, I started getting interested in bonsai and have since then started a few, fun projects, such as germinating some pine seeds and buying and repotting some cheaper trees in the appropriate timeframe. I also contacted my wonderful local bonsai community. I dug a hedge and took home a lovely stump. So I have had first contact with quite a few parts of the bonsai hobby. What eluded me so far is styling.
Until today. I bought a cheap (~$28 converted) Abies Koreana "Silberlocke" (as stated on their label) from the local nursery. The soil is not a disaster and a repot can wait until next spring. The tree has a main trunkline (albeit grafted) and a lot of ramification. I pruned some dead twigs and one very silly branch that was obviously out of place. Didn't do anything radical before reading up. I carefully dug for the root base and didn't find anything spectacular. It looks relatively even, but there was a big crossing root that should probably get cut on repotting.

- What do you think?
- Should I pinch some of the larger new growth in the apex to balance the growth?
- Should I do anything important right now?
- Is there anything important I should know about Firs?
- What is the best time to do actual styling and wiring?
- Any pointers towards styling?
