For fun I thought I would try to take this Shimpaku that I didn't think would ever turn out to be much and air layer it for a rock planting. I tried 4 air layers, the two that did the best went on to this rock, 1 failed, and 1 got planted into a pot. It would look better with a better rock and a shallower pot.
Air layers and grafts etc. are always exciting when they work.

Can I say it? Many have tried and many have failed, but you pulled that off very well.
I particularly think your rock and pot choice for the planting came out excellent.

Well thanks, my wife said it looks like some bushes growing on a small mountain. I kind of agree. Next time I will look to show the trunk more, the trunks are there but they are covered up with foliage and soil to ensure the health for now. Thicker trunk air layers would make for something a lot better.... next time.
