This is fairly subjective, but I'm curious how hard-and-fast the rule is about conifers going exclusively into unglazed pots. I have a wee Blue Atlas Cedar I obtained last year and it's just starting to pop, seems healthy, and I'd like to get it potted up. I have two options: a light colored unglazed pot, and a glazed pot that's very similar in color to the foliage (also a tiny bit shorter).

I'll admit to being a child of the eighties, so for one, I like me some seafoam/teal colors and for two, I can get with some matchy-matchy. :p That said, I've heard it asserted many and many a time that glazed and colored pots are reserved for non-conifers - even setting that aside, there IS a risk that the foliage would just blend into the pot visually, muddling the view. I figured I'd get some informed opinions (gut reactions also welcome) just to see if it helps me make up my mind.

Thanks for any input!

I have seen a lot of confiers in glazed pots, so wouldn’t worry about the pot color rule. The only problem might be if you want to eventually enter it in a club show and have an overly dogmatic show manager who insists on the glazed pot rule. I know first hand that they are out there!

We seem to be relaxing the older 'rules' more now so conifers in glazed pots are being shown more and more.
I think the glazed/ coloured pots with deciduous and flowering species is to complement or contrast whatever colour the tree exhibits. Most conifers are the same all year round so don't need the help of coloured pot.
I still tend to stick to the unglazed pots for conifers but would be happy to use glazed if I thought it fit the tree well.

Looks like a bit too much blue/green with the cedar in that glazed pot.

A huge show in the UK had one in a pot almost this shade. I think it works. It compliments the needles.
