A few potential new collects I’m eyeing, tips on collecting aspen anyone Found a decent one.

I saw Andy smith has been collecting aspen










recently. Found a detailed experiment on transplanting aspen from a forestry department in CO. Got a few ideas and theories. Few other natives ive got staked out, Feel free to weigh in with opinions. Collected the the rest of the species pictured with good success besides aspen. Haven’t tried it yet.

I have one that's unique and good sized and in good soil. I can say I have not gotten anything figured out. Give me a decade. My premise with trees like this assumes the branches and twigs are transient so I keep that in mind and emotion. Never let suckers grow from its base ever. repot every year or almost--it needs to grow a yearly crop of fine roots. lots of fertilizer. let it grow and cut back after hardens then let it grow etc. Beware of aphids with aspen--they kick its butt. Hail really mars leaves. I am using pumice with 20% chopped spag and bark. Fertilizing with Sumo cakes and
chemicals. This one is pretty old. Its branches sparse are s but there will be more next year. The wires were tests--the small branches were pretty brittle. Give Imidacloprid early and often.

@crust Exposed roots-I do like it. Maybe a slight tilt of the metal to break the harmony a bit ? Hawthorn?

Thanks @crust! I think this one should have close roots as ive collected several other trees from the area so hoping that helps. Was thinking of planting a bit deep in hopes that might help keep root suckers at bay.

Few more random project deciduous. Haven’t dug a single tree yet. Been a long consistent winter, trees will be strong this season because of It ithink. Itching to get after it. lots of repotting, transitions to bonsai pots, and styling for me this season. Cheers!
