2022 discount rack contest: Mapleminx’s Adenium Socotranum

Came from a small nursery specializing in succulents and cacti, was originally over $30, was in what I like to call the ”go dead or go home“ section for the equivalent of about $8. Purchased right at the end of April 2022

Here she is about to be repotted the day I got her, the caudex was very spongey and the branches oozed brown liquid when cut rather than the healthy white sap.

And here she is after a hefty cut back to healthy tissue. Caudex is rock solid now .
Bit of wire just to prevent upright growth.

Oh trust me I’d be the first to die laughing. Never tried to “go all bonsai style” on one of these things so it’s definitely going to be an experience

So, she’s sprouting. You can’t really see all the shoots from one angle but there is a lot.

Did you notice it has testicles?! The kitty is cute, it came in a pack of 9 (all boys) and you can turn it’s li’l head too. I like some tacky deco in my plants.

Right now it’s backbudding like CRAZY, never have I ever seen an Adenium go so totally nuts on backbudding. It’s obviously suuuper happy and thriving since it’s rough start. One things for sure, I’m gonna be spoilt for choice when it comes to branching.
