These are three ports which are 14-16 months old cuttings. Just looking for ideas and suggestions in general. What I want the most at this point is for the trunks to thicken so I guess I should just let them grow, but any feedback whatsoever is greatly appreciated.

Hey all just a question for you.
This is a PA I just bought and it was sold with out a pot. He gave it to me In a Gritty but wet mix. I originally put it in that pot with the mix for a day till I got my regular bonsai mix ( pumice ,lava,DE and bark) it's root ball wasn't huge but it did have...
Hey all...
Seen this PA for sale he wanted 200 with a pot. I didn't like it cascade and I didn't realize how big it was. So i ended up buying it for 100 bucks woth out the pot and put it informal upright in this red pot.
I'm so fricken happy I can't wait to develop this into a massive beauty...
Hello guys! First Post ever here, so be gently (or not) i can stand it :p.
I got a purchase of a Portulacaria Afra (not my first) but this one is a lot bigger and more a challenge then my little one before.
Saw this one and it was that cheap, I thought this could be a good bonsai candidate...
My Portulacaria Afra (that im trying to grow into a cascade style bonsai), stopped growing leavess and started pushing out these strange compact brown clusters instead.
Does anyone here have any idea what is happening?
Im wondering if this means that it's time to defoliate it completely?
Went to home Depot for something (I think
I made up an excuse for something). I found this awesome bunch of trees. I've never had a dwarf jade before. Now I have a dozen!
My transplanted spekboom is final starting to recover. Started from a cutting about 15 years ago when I was still a laaitie. It's been field grown for about 7 years and was transplanted 2 months ago. 70cm tall with a trunk diameter of 42cm at the base. Absolutely beautiful taper. I have...
Hello!
I've gotten this bonsai tree a few months ago as a gift so I am still new at taking care of it. I am a little concerned about 2 things and I would appreciate your help/advice on them!
First Problem:
I've noticed that the base of the trunk looks a lot more flaky/shriveled up compared to...
2 things, 1st order of business, this…
And then to the next, I’m at my wit’s end with this tree, I give it all the sunlight it can get. Sun rises over the house’s roof between 8 and 9, and sets behind the opposite building just before 4. I still get so much sunlight that I had to move my...
Just wanted to share a pot and stand I printed for my little mame "in progress" portulacaria afa. After alittle elbow grease , paint and sealer and im calling it done for now.
Thanks for looking!
Hello my fellow enthusiasts,
I posted about this tree a little while ago and could use some advice.
I repotted my little portulacaria afra on June 18th (totally dry, as per Adam’s advice), into my homemade mix of lava, pumice, turface, coconut husk and some granite.
I then waited a full 10...
Hi everybody.
I'm Paolo from Italy.
I'm pretty new to the bonsai world and a couple of months ago a started collecting some small Portulacarias (those already in bonsai pots usually sold for 15 euro in garden shops).
Yesterday I was visiting a Bonsai shop in order to buy materials for my soil...
Looking for some ideas on how I can style this P. Afra. It will be my first time doing much in the way of styling but I've done a lot of research over a couple of years and continue to read and learn. Here's a bunch of photos from different angles of the tree. I'm a really big fan of the type of...
I’ve got a few portulacaria afra inside under a grow light until it is warm enough to move them back outside. Just noticed a bunch of white things, I think they are bug casings, on the leaves of some of the plants. Was wondering what people thought they might be and the best way to deal with...
Hello Bonsai Nut community!
I bought a Portulacaria Afra from Brussel's about 5 months ago and need some help reviving it. I started getting into bonsai about 5 years ago and this is my first Port. As usual, the nursery soil was a bit too water retentive so I've tried to be very careful with...
Hello all,
I have a 10/12-year-old portulacaria that needs some work. It is very vigorous and healthy.
I am planning to check the roots, pruning them if necessary, and repositioning the trunk that now it is too lean.
On top of that, I would like to remove a couple of massive branches that grew...
Hello,
Attached are a couple angled pictures of this P. afra specimen I picked up online. I have already structurally pruned it, but I have a hard time deciding the trunk like and when to prune. Also, how do I make the trunk line smooth from the stumps of previous cuts? Thanks!
Quick question: I've begun using osmocote on my p. afra and have given it a healthy dose on top of the soil. It's loving it. The instructions say it's good for up to six months of slow-release feeding.
When do you all replenish the osmocote? After six months? Earlier?
Thanks!
Yusef
Hello Everyone!
I recently obtained a little P. afra pre-bonsai from an online shop. I have attached pictures of all angles. I'm having difficulty on what to decide to do with it. I'm hoping for a nice formal upright style, but I think on of those first branches are going to have to go. Any...
Question about managing branch thickness on a fairly mature portulacaria afra... Let's say you have a first branch that's half an inch thick near its base, but you have a third branch that's 3/4 of an inch thick near its base. And you want that first branch to be a hearty soul, much thicker than...
Woohoo. First post.
So I’ve been reading beginner books and have been all over YouTube trying to get up the nerve to just begin this project. Have all my entry tools, wiring, bonsai soil, and a pot, although it only has one drain hole. The plant has already done all the work by deciding on its...
