Hi all,
I just started growing bonsai seriously this past spring. I've read a plethora of posts to this forum that were immensely helpful as I learned the basics, so I'm hoping y'all can help with a more specific issue. I recently moved to San Diego (10b) and, with the new growing space I now...
Hey everyone, this is my first post here so please forgive me if it's in the wrong forum. I thought of putting it in the Collecting one, but wasn't sure. I am preparing a rather large Acer Campestre yamadori for spring collection. I have collected a few trees in the past but don't have anything...
Just got a few Acer Campestre on sale at the local garden nursery with this being my first go at maples. I don't plan to do any work until end of winter, just learning for now. Any advice on the do's and don'ts? Also got a few questions.
Are they similar to Japanese maples in terms of...
Do these trees need alkaline soil? I used bark in all my mixes and I think the soil turned a bit too sour after a couple months. And can they withstand chalk? I have horticultural chalk (something like that) and I could dilute some wood ash in water which should also raise pH. Of my Korean...
After about 12 years of growing first in a box and then transferred to the ground for further growing this Acer Campestre, Field Maple, twig grew enough to be dug-up and boxed. Bittersweet feeling....after all those years of easy care...watering and sometimes weeding. Just watching and growing...
I know it’s not even near for what a bonsai is. Not even 5% there yet, but i just wanna show a cute little plant i have. I don’t know why but this kiddo just make me so attracted to it. Does the trunk movement retain when it grows? Mmmm... but i guess not ‘cause if i grow it to thicken the...
Here's a field maple I've had since June of 2017. I bought it at Meehan's Miniatures, I think for around $25-30, and I was pretty excited because I had been looking for one for a long time.
As bought:
I slip potted it that summer into a 5 gallon pot and honestly, I can't remember if I've...
Hi everyone
I'm looking for a bit of advice with a field maple (Acer campestre) I am currently ground growing. The tree is tall and straight, with the beginning of a good nebari. The trunk diameter is roughly 2.5"/6.5cm.
The first picture shows what I think is the best front, with several...
Entering this chunky one! Purchased a few months ago but so far unworked. I think it needs a miracle to make something presentable 😂
But anyway, here it is in all it's glory...
This tree was purchased earlier this year. It was a bit overgrown and pruned aggressively. My second attempt at wiring, not completely unhappy with the result. All those years of twisting rope around cucumber and tomato plants in my youth do pay of I guess.
Some questions: I want the branches...
Hello all!
Took a risk ordering this field maple online, was only one photo available, but was cheap and my first opportunity to try a bit of a beasty one!
So the trunk is far from ideal, quite an odd shape! Almost quite flat? Hopefully the photos will show this.
Limited movement and...
Went to buy wire, got pulled in by this chunky trunk.
A few cut marks on one side (this will most likely be the back!)
It's my first maple, been wanting to try one, thought this would be a good start! Looks healthy and yeah, I'm a fan of the trunk. It's not perfect, but I think it's workable...
Hello everyone,
I am training a couple of field maples that I got from a nursery stock last year.
I think they are 2-3yos.
This is their first spring with me and I noticed that the leaves are quite sturdy for one sapling whdress saggy/flabby in the others
Do you have experience in this species...
This is a tree that I collected locally (south east England) last year. Here's how it looks now.
Prior to collection I had chopped it and left it where it was for a year. Here it is in the ground after chopping.
In March 2017 I collected it. It had some nice fine roots close to the trunk...
Probably my smallest real tree - it's a Field maple/Acer campestre - grown from a collected seedling.
Going from a massive 4inch pot to a correctly proportioned 2incher from Walsall Ceramics.
