Just re potted my Cork Bark Portulacaria Afra

Hello guys! £70 for this cork bark, do you think it's a good deal? If not, how would you pick a cork bark bonsai? Do you think it's a good time (autumn) to be buying bonsai?

I hear that trees in the ground take awhile before rough bark is visible. Is it because of relative proportions? I imagine the speed at which trunks thicken might outpace the pace which the cork/rough bark forms. In theory, if you wanted to speed this process of rough bark formation in the pot...

This is a Corkbark JBP cultivar that showed promising bark in the photos. I bought it from a grower, Dave DeWire, out in WA in 2009. I’ve showed pix over the years, but it hasn’t had its own thread yet. These are as offered from the grower in 2009: It’s about 24” tall.

Its budding well after its fall out of its pot, Here is a better image of it with a proper camera. Next plan is to plan what needs to go next spring :-)

...Older import that was pretty weak when I got it a couple years ago, so nursing it back to full health in a training pot for another couple years!

Looking to acquire a cork oak and have several options available. All options would require a trunk chop. Looking for advice on what would be best time of year to complete and any limitations on trunk size or any other precautions I should be aware of.
