Got this Yatsubusa today, and I am very happy with the purchase. However as you can see, there are some spots with inverse taper/knobbing (which is very typical of yatsubusa elms). Obviously I'm thinking air layers, one at the top under at that bulge, and one at the bottom right on that bulge...

Hi, new member here.
I'm posting because I have a Chinese elm air layer with leaves that have suddenly started drying out.
It was air layered in mid April and has been growing strongly since then. Today I noticed the new shoots and leaves had started to dry out. I took a peek at the cut site...
Drastic pruning to open up the branches and get rid of the matted birds nest. Also took about 3 feet of rope like roots off and re-potted. New growth starting to come. 1st March 2020
I took a cutting from my first mallsai tree. I think i made the cutting in 2006 and put it in the ground in 2007. Both winters the top of the tree froze off, so i potted it in 2009.
It grew so i was happy.
2010 The top section died.
2011 Lets try again

Sad story....maybe? I air layered the top off of this plant and then moved it to the corner of the garden. The air layer was spectacular. Our gardener knocked it off the shelf and did not tell me. I noticed it 4 days later and laying down in the pot......it never recovered. Here is the bottom...
