    Arctic blue willow

Looking good wireme. At this point I've got all mine in the ground growing trunks. I'm doing some training while planted trying to control which branches I want to thicken and feature. They tend to sprout branches EVERYWHERE if let go. I'll post some pics soon.

    Arctic blue willow

Lost some cuttings over the winter but here is one that was in the ground for 2 winters and I dug it up and put in a training pot, waited for it to recover and send some leaves out and then went to town with some wire. I like the soft rubber coated wire for these willows as it has plenty of give...

    Show me your willows.

Here are some of my Dwarf Arctic Willows I've been playing with. All were taken from cuttings off a small plant I bought at a local shop about 7 years ago. They are supposed to be able to withstand to -30 Fahrenheit. I've got lots of cuttings in the ground right now but some are in training...

Reactions to the First Artisans Cup

My take on American Bonsai is that it is not definable. America is a collection of peoples from around the world. As Bill Murray said in Stripes; "...our forefathers were kicked out of every decent country in the world. We are the wretched refuse. We’re the underdog. We’re mutts!". So why can't...

    Artisans Cup selections

Think of it as a $400k club show. As long as they aren't a 501c non-for-profit organization I see no problem with them overseeing tree selection, lighting, venue, judging, trophies, back-slapping, glad-handing and general profiting. General question about different bonsai orgs; are any of them...

    Arctic blue willow

Thanks Zac for passing on the great info on willows. I'm loving how this ones trunk is developing. And the fresh shoots are a great shade of red. I've done a lot of work in the garden and will post more pics later, but this one was my fav.

    Arctic blue willow

Thanks for the positive feedback. Yes, I would agree with the larger ones doing better than smaller ones. It's like pissing off the Hulk, he just gets stronger the more you upset him. The large cuttings last year were about 1" thick. With the recent cuttings, I took these mid-summer and the...

    Arctic blue willow

Hello, I just joined this site looking for info on these willows. I bought one of these as a landscape shrub as the tag said mature size of 4'x4'. These things can grow a couple feet a year if given enough water and sun. A couple years later and I'm obsessed with making these little guys...
