    Easy to maintain bonsai

I do like that idea. I've been browsing some stuff online but am apprehensive about shipping plants. Has anyone offered from Dallasbonsai.com or wigretsbonsai.com? I saw some interesting plants on those sites for reasonable prices

    Easy to maintain bonsai

Honestly we both agreed upon a "mall-sai" look, not something I can show off in the national show lol. There will be about 15 tables so I planned on growing 20. Maybe at worst 5 will be walked off with, not all them. I plan to keep a few myself and give the rest back to the other person...

    Low light bonsai

Well I said that because I was hoping to exclude any "indoor bonsai" thread starters, and I have no more room for tropical lol. I've tired conifers (pine, juniper, hinoke, and larch), a amur maple sapling, azalea, ummm and a few more. I lost most them due to going on vacation in August last...

    Low light bonsai

Hello everyone, So I started bonsai last year on my second story apartment porch that doesn't get much more then partial sun light. Being new to the whole plant thing in general, I just bought whatever I felt like with very little success. So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for low...

    Thickening a sapling trunk

Hello everybody, So I have a quick question about trunks of a sapling. In January I got a tiny tamarind sapling that was struggling to survive, so being in Connecticut I brought it inside stuck it under a grow light and let it do it's thing, hoping it would bounce back. Well it rehabbed nicely...

Got my Cold Stream Farms trees today

Thanks Jeanluc, I already have. It's safe to say that me stumbling accidentally across sanctuary bonsai in the dead of winter this year is what got me into bonsai to begin with. With 3' of snow on the ground tho it was tough to appreciate what Todd has set up. He was very helpful for having a...

Got my Cold Stream Farms trees today

So I figured I would post a quick update on these little twigs, it has been about a month now, and these two guys have exploded with growth. For being nothing more then glorified twigs when I received them, to growing noticably almost daily, it has been an interesting thing to watch. I go to...

    Ebb and Flow Thoughts?

So recently I decided to create a small DIY ebb and flow hydroponics system to see if it will give me greater growth for some trees, then what I would normally get on my south facing 2nd story porch. The setup up I created can hold about 8 medium sized pots, pumps the water through the drain...

    New Azalea

When I pulled it out of the pot, the hidden stump took up about 50% of the root ball, by the time I realized I had knocked off more roots then I was planning too. I wasn't using anything other then my fingers and some water to gently remove the dirty, but those roots are very fine.

    New Azalea

Yesterday I was picking up some materials at a local bonsai store, and I came upon a Satsuki Azalea in the green house, hidden behind a few other plants. The tree perked my interest a bit, and the price was pretty good, so I decided to buy it. It was in a plastic pot about 5-6" wide, and I...

    Klinki Pine

Recently someone I know came across a klinki pine, and it perked my interest being a not so common pine. From the limited research I've been able to do it is indigenous to Papua New Guinea and is considered endangered due to deforestation. I'd love to propagate it some how to see what I could do...

Got my Cold Stream Farms trees today

Oh not at all, I know you were just pointing out that these little guys won't be ready to do anything, but growing up, for quite some time. Over the last few months I've acquired a handful of other bonsai/pre-bonsai to fiddle with, I've made the beginner mistake of getting little plants that...

Got my Cold Stream Farms trees today

Nybonsai - I have been very hesitant about ordering bonsai/prebonsai stock online, because i tend to be that person who will inspect an item 28 times before I actually buy it. A day before writing my post though, I stumbled across a little hole in the wall bonsai nursary that was very close to...

Got my Cold Stream Farms trees today

A quick story about my recent Cold Stream Farms experience for anyone who is interested. A little less then a month ago, I found myself desperatly wanting a new pre-bonsai tree to work with, that also can survive this bipolar weather that New England is always getting. The issue was, being...

    Saplings in buckets?

So I know this is a bit after the fact, but I'm getting the trees in a few days and have picked up a bunch of supplies to create my own soil and a sifter set, I got 25 lbs of poultry grit, orchid mix http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00KWXTH36 And pine bark chips...

    Saplings in buckets?

Hmm I thought I put it in there before, I'm in CT, zone 6A. I won't be receiving these trees for a few weeks atleast, so I am hoping by then it's warmed up to a nice constant 50F. Currently the temperature is fluctuating between 35 to 50F

    Saplings in buckets?

Thank you guys for all the info, this had been a huge help. I have been searching this forum, and others, a ton, it's just so much information for a newbie with no growing experience at all, that I've found out hard to figure out an action plan. I had assumed that buckets were one of the only...

    Saplings in buckets?

Thank you! I've been reading as much as I can over the past few days and wasn't sure if there was "a way" to grow these bare root trees into bonsai. I have been thinking of using mostly inorganic soils so they can get use to it. I was unsure if because they don't have an established root system...

    Saplings in buckets?

Currently I have no ground to plant them in. Next year, when my lease is up, I hope to move some where I can plant them. I was thinking 5 gallon buckets could hold them over if I do it right. I haven't received them yet, but when I do I'll post pictures and a what limited review I can provide.
