Looks like this week is the week for some of my trees to wake up.
I have many trees and species but the one that wake up first is Chinese Quince. I already saw some of the buds started to move.
As the thread title suggested, here is my contribution for the maple color in 2025. This would fall in the 2024 Fall color but the weather was so warm that it didn't turn until this week.... right before the hard freeze and snow. We will see what it will look like this weekend.
I thought we will have a mild winter this year since we were able to wear shorts for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. Looks like Mother Nature didn't want us to forget her this year by saving all that cold for next week. This is the first time I see this forum stay so calm when...
I got a few of these on some of my JBPs. I suspect some kind of fungus but wanted to hear from some of the experts here. The tips have a moldy white color on them. Majority of them got killed off before they have a chance to extend. I don't believe the issue is cause by pine tip moth as I am...
Mr. Chen quite rough with when he style his tree. In the above video, he pretty much barefoot a mature JBP. I thought am pretty sloppy when it's to work on JBP but he seems worse but he does have "nice" trees.... just not Japanese refined.
I've seen many on here think they are a hoader but they only have a few benches of trees. @19Mateo83 thinks he has what it takes to be the founder. I have seen a few benches but still not convinced he has what it takes.
Am running for the president of Bonsainut hoarder club.
If you can only take one species of tree with you to Mars... which one would you choose?
I know there are many that I liked but for me Japanese Maple is my choice.
Have a great Friday and weekend everyone!
I hate mosquito! Either I try to smash it or lower the window to let it out. Pay too much attention to the stinky mosquito than the road. Veered into the curve...
Bad lucks kept on piling
No hard freeze! Low in the 30s and 40s do not seem that bad.

Bnutters,
Not sure how many having these many trees to actually have to think about this.
Do you organize you bonsai based on pot size, species, sun/shade tolerant. Am curious what is your style and why it is a work well for you?
I need to do this soon.
Did the cut on Wenesday 2/21/24.
Bagged them up today 2/25/2024.
Total 10... 9 TM, 1 Crabtree.
Medium... straight peatmoss and no rooting hormones
Now... we'll wait....
The summer was extremely hot... temp in triple digits for weeks if not months. Many pines along the streets are dead as well.
Am reluctant to have a record of some of the trees I really care about are dead.
Soon we will have a winter hall of shame so I figure let have one for the extreme summer...
We are still fresh into 2024... I think it would be interesting to capture goals and see what can be accomplished.
Here are my goals:
1) put up the shade cloth for sun and heat sensitive like Japanese Maple.
2) high grading my collection... make improving to existing trees.
3) clean up the...
Houston area will see the low in the low 20s on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Time to clean out the garage and make room for the trees. What a joy in growing trees in pots. Funny thing is we will be seeing 70s for the next couple days.
Collected a few willow leaf and southern live oak acorns at the neighborhood park.
As you can see the SLO acorns already started to germinate so I put them in the pot with the help of my son.
Well am trying princess persimmon seed again. Few years ago I tried and got zero germination. Hope for better luck this time. Also trying some japanese red pine seeds.
PP seeds were pretty hard to come by last few years. I just ordered them from https://sheffields.com/
These guys are quite good at Wrightia Religiosa and Desmodium which are my favorite. They sure do have access to some pretty amazing stocks that cost less than $30 USD.

They speak in Viet but you can...
I have never seen one in blue ever. I have seen green, brown and black many times. I have plenty of them but this one is special! As you can see, I got really excited so snap away I did.
A frog friend decided to hang out in my JM group.
Am thinking of propagate this ficus as it seems to have great qualities... nice dome shape and leaf color. From a distance it looks almost like a tree in full bloom of yellow blossoms. I will name it Ficus Nerifolia - Texas Heat.
What do you think?
Info on how to style this is not much on the internet/youtube. I seen one or two on bnut a while back.
I have a few that I put together and a couple I bought from @cmea couple years ago. Would be interested seeing one styled.
