Glad to hear all your trees are healthy, and that you had a good family summer. I was at a bonsai get together in August, and mentioned how as hobbyists we have to accept that life will get in the way of bonsai work. Like you said, trees are healthy, so no serious stress.
You can definetly remove those high roots, they are not a part of the true root system. As you mentioned, thuja put out roots in any collection of damp material. The root flare is clearly the lower section, and where this tree starts.

It really was great to actually "be allowed" to share our trees with the public. Everyone was clearly overjoyed to be out, and socializing. The last year and a half have been terrible.
This one was also shared in my local club show this summer. The organization of the show was a little tricky, as we still have some difficult rules related to covid.
