Holy shit haven’t been on here in a minute dafuq is this madness. Money or pride or what? I’m not sure, only made it to page 2. i Always kinda liked Adam. But one time I made a joke that one of his carve jobs looked like a big vagina, because it did, to me at least, and he didn’t think it was...

    Collecting Jack Pines

That one is doing well and alive. Probably going to sell it to my club president though. Gonna wait till candles extend though. I can tell it’s doing well because in a few random warm spells this winter the needles turned a darker shade of green and the candles seem to be getting perky. Don’t...

for all of us DE fans......

Checking in with another challenging Larch

I like the sketch, give it a go, why not? Can always change it later if you don’t like the path. Def needs a repot I’d say, they don’t like to be root bound at all I don’t think. Which would be my only consideration, it will likely need to be repotted rather frequently to keep its vigor...

A few potential new collects I’m eyeing, tips on collecting aspen anyone Found a decent one.

Thanks @crust! I think this one should have close roots as ive collected several other trees from the area so hoping that helps. Was thinking of planting a bit deep in hopes that might help keep root suckers at bay.

A few potential new collects I’m eyeing, tips on collecting aspen anyone Found a decent one.

I saw Andy smith has been collecting aspen recently. Found a detailed experiment on transplanting aspen from a forestry department in CO. Got a few ideas and theories. Few other natives ive got staked out, Feel free to weigh in with opinions. Collected the the rest of the species...

    Massive American Beech

Giga, I recently read this book called "the hidden lives of trees" I think you would enjoy it. easy reader, mostly based on an about beech trees. a very unique perspective, but also some useful information for bonsai, at least I thought so. Couple unique factoids in there. for instance, those...

    Eastern Redbud Cercis Canadensis

Jack Wikle, an older gentlemen in my club who is a great grower, used to have a very nice red bud and it would flower. its dead now, he said he got too agressive with it or something, but people talk about it still. i dont have a picture of it, and ive only seen a picture of it once. just...

    River Hoppin'

Timbo, i can tell you right now your dieback problem is directly related to those ugly, vertical trunk splitting chops. a clean cut makes all the difference, but also, take notice of old budding points on the tree/stump. it has to have somewhere to die back to. think of a plant cell as a...

both of my stumps that I showed were completely bare rooted in late feb or early march. I have others that have responded well to the procedure. 1/8-1/4"pumice, repti bark, turface MVP, lava, and charcoal was the mix. I'm super geeked for repottong season this year. not to mention collecting...

Short story of my little Birch

Maros, I am a big fan of this tree, I think you know. I have a collected birch that this tree was the inspiration for. It is weak, but it has survived the harsh non ideal collection prosecedure and dropped it’s leaves naturally. I am tempted to get in better soil but I think it’s best to wait...

Not to high Jack but @Timbo I’ve hadn’t the opposite experience. I love these things here are a couple of mine from last year. They bud from old stumps, even better from young stumps in my experience.

    River Hoppin'

It’s one of my favorite species. The leaves reduce, the bark is great, seems to collect rather Obediently, back buds well. the fall color is a nice yellow. I’ve got very small trees with the old bark and the wood is hard and doesn’t seem to want to rot out super fast like capinus. I do love...

    Yamadori Utah juniper

I see, interesting. Obviously your pretty close with him so I think that’s kinda cool actually. i I’m tempted myself to take a few of my trees over to my friend Kurt’s Nursery because they are starting to accumulate and would get a lot of attention from my club there. A random story. I was in...
