    MABS 2016 - April 15-17

Hey Sergio, your maple is looking great as always! Do you mind sharing any of the judges critique of the tree? I'm sure it was well received, and I can't imagine there was anything they didn't like about it. lol! Maybe in the thread for this tree? Of course don't if you don't want to. :)

    Koto Hime Maple

Welcome to the forum! You might just be the second or third Wyomingite here... lol. I'm a bit sick of winter as well, but I think you may be one of the few that has a shorter growing season than I do. I'm in the southeast part of the state (Douglas).

    Japanese Maples in Colorado Springs?

There are quite a few people who grow Japanese maples in Colorado. I'm not entirely sure about CO Springs in particular, but I don't think it would be an issue. We have club members here in Wyoming who have had them for 20+ years now, and our climate is worse than Springs would be. The most...

    Musicians?

Good stuff guys! I've played guitar for close to 20 years, and mess around a bit with the piano. Very musical family! I play electric guitar at church just about every weekend of the year for the last 10 years. Me a few years ago. Some fun I had in the bathroom recently... <iframe...

I'm sorry I don't. I think Ryan Neil may have even won the bid on it, but I'm not sure.

Sorry for the terrible pic. This one was styled by Ryan Neil at the 2012 ABS/BCI conference in Denver.

Here's the bristlecone. Different style, but a good example that you don't have to have an ancient tree to make an interesting bonsai. https://dupuich.smugmug.com/Bonsai/Exhibits/BIB-15th-Annual-Exhibit/i-kNDmTZV/0/O/20140119-178-bib.jpg

    opinion of my pinion

You will learn to evaluate trees as you go. Some trees have so many issues that would take so much time and effort to fix that you would be far ahead sticking it in your hedge right away and working on other trees.. lol. However, if it survives, I don't personally consider this pinion to be one...

    opinion of my pinion

Hi Woodland Spirit, and welcome to the forum! I haven't been on B-nut as much lately, but I used to spend WAY too much time here... lol. If that's possible. I hope to be on here more again soon. - For some background, I collect trees (some very old) from the Rocky Mountains here in Wyoming. My...

    Kinzu (Golden Bean kumquat)

Looking good! Mine is just a seedling on it's own roots, so it is VERY slow growing... lol. But I'm really enjoying it anyway! The fruit on mine is just beginning to yellow a bit now.

I absolutely love this thread! It's awesome that you started this at the age of 3 and still have it now!! :) My son will be born any day now, and I'm going to start something like this with him when he's old enough to know what he's doing. I may start one the day he's born just for fun too...
