Sigh, it was really just a joke, being posted with the referenced song lyrics.
Looks like a white clover weevil - which I don't think will bother the pine seedlings it was around. Who knows though, there are so many types.
I will be more serious and vigilant in my pest identification.

So, not in my garden, but next to my makeshift container garden at work.
I always leave the driver window down in the desert heat. Today, this critter hopped up on my side mirror and was bending all the way down to admire himself in the glass, a behavior I've observed before. But then it got curious and hopped in. Couldn't let the opportunity to get a shot of my would-be passenger pass me by.

I miss frogs! I can't remember the last time I have seen a frog where I live. I find a native salamander occasionally in my yard, they don't need it to be very damp for them to survive

San Diego seems like a hard sell for most frogs. Maybe there are native toad species around.

I'm in the coastal range in Ventura county and last year we had a frog show up in a seed tray that was holding water. I have no idea where these frogs come from, but they are out there. It's like they come alive after it rains in winter and water ditches temporarily get some water running through. Weird thing is he showed up in fall.
We let him live there for a couple weeks before he moved on.
