    Nothing teaches you quicker than

LoL! Just ask an eight year old child what they think of your tree. Oh boy! It's unbridled imagination. A mind untainted by prejudice or presumption. Solid gold.

    pond basket or walled pot

I prefer my Anderson flats. They allow the lateral extension of the roots, but air prune the bottom roots. They're like a pond basket on the bottom and a solid pot on the sides and I don't have the watering issues. I have a stack of baskets somewhere around here.

    Got pumice?

Well guys thanks for the input. This is the first time I ever offered anything here. It won't happen again.

    Got pumice?

At Bonsai Jack you can get 2 qts for $20 plus shipping. That's $40 for one gallon plus shipping. This is 3 gal for $45 and I'm paying the shipping. I don't want to hear any whining about how you can't get pumice at a decent price!

A "Better" First Try - Nursery Stock Boxwood

Buxus are slow growing shrubs with a predominantly upward growth habit. They usually don't have a central trunk with side branching, more like a multi trunked broom. I have worked them from the 'let's see how much of this I can save' POV, but I think it's much more productive to just give it a...

    Jacqueline Hillier Elm

https://photos.app.goo.gl/EDChAU5tUymnWpmB8 Here's a picture of it just now. It will fill out again in a few weeks. There's a few burnt leaves, but they were buried in the canopy before I trimmed it up.

    Jacqueline Hillier Elm

I just tuned in on this thread and read through it. I see a few folks doing good work with these and I have mine for about fifteen years now. I've grown it from a quarter inch rooted cutting. A couple of years in a pot and then I set it out in the garden for three years and it gained significant...

Chinese Elms - Sprouts From The Roots

On some trees that are more difficult to propagate, like a European Field Maple or Hawthorn, I will let those grow until I repot the tree and then collect it with part of the root it's growing from and get a pre rooted starter tree. The elms are so easy to propagate from cuttings I don't bother...

Please Enjoy a Seat in the Shade Under the Boxwood

That's a great boxwood forest! I especially appreciate the crossing trunks which is something most people try to avoid in forest plantings, but is quite common out here in the jungle. So I get a very natural feeling from this composition. Well done!

Tell me why native silver maple sucks?

I didn't read all six pages, just your intro and a few of the responses and then cut to the present so pardon me if this was already presented. I saw your header and just had to throw in dos pesos. Man nothing sucks about these trees and like any tree you have to work within the parameters of...
