I bought one from Bill V years ago but sold it because the growth habits are odd on these, and they barely thicken trunks. I talked to a professional who studied in Japan and he said that the thick trunk sekka hinoki you see there are likely sekka foliage grafted onto thicker regular hinoki stock.

I've stored cork oaks in my unheated detached garage for years. It usually stays above 35 degrees, and the only light it gets is from a tiny side window in the back corner.

Yeah, I really love the pot. I think it's an older chinese pot with different bird motifs on each of the pot sides. Very heavy! Felt fortunate to find it eight years ago, and haven't seen any since. Looks like a sister to one that Bill V posted yesterday:

I think it might be Japanese. I think the Japanese types flower at the same time that they are in leaf, while the Chinese flower pre-leaf. I'm willing to entertain fair offers. Not looking to get rich on this or anything. Obviously can't ship this thing, it's a tad too big.

Here are some other pictures. Was a very large tree (probably 10' tall and 15' wide) growing over a trellis at my parents' house in NYC. Collected in 2010, pretty stable now and flowering reliably. I think I have a thread going on it somewhere here.

If you're smoking with charcoal, wood, etc., why do you need liquid smoke? I have only used liquid smoke when smoking salmon - I soak it in a brine mixture that includes some liquid smoke, then smoke it in an electric smoker over alder wood which has a very mild smoke flavor.
