I really appreciate this post. I've been thinking of doing a negari for some time.
I have quite a few 2-3 yrs old.
Thanks for lighting the fire again.... 👍
I to am with everyone. Actually I don't see it as "inverse taper"....its more of a shoulder...as Rock said.
European beeches are slooow, but fun and can be very rewarding to the patient ones.
WOW that is a great score. I agree...don't remove any foliage. I'll put it in a pumice rich ( 60%+....you can't really over water that) medium in a place with filtered sun.
Give it time, and work with what you have when its strong again.
Wow beautiful trees mate. Love the colour on the trident and sangu kaku.
I layered my beech and later screwed it to a plank....I did put it in the ground for a few years after. It formed a very nice nebari (which i'm chuffed with) in time....even though european beech are notorious for not...
Yes we have Redwoods down here. This one is the talk right now.

I'm next door in NZ.
My 3 red maples (about 10 years old) also dried up some...to much in full sun.
Every year i'm frustrated by the long internodes they throw out.
This year I did something "radical" i've never done. Because most of the leaves are crisped up, I removed all the leaves...and cut...
Haha...i'm reading @MACH5 thread about this tree, and came apon this comment he made
@JudyB If this tree ever leaves my garden, rest assured it will go right back to yours! :)
