Japanese Black Pine purchased at Kuma bonsai nursery.
I like this tree. For some reason the empty space on the lower right works for me. You really want to bulk up that primary branch on the lower left and possibly use it as a sacrifice branch later.

i still think that this pine will need some energy redirected to that lower right branch to create more of a presence of foliage in that area. even if the lack there of foliage looks acceptable i believe that it still needs some energy transfered to it. i am new with pines so i will have some people help me with this one.

Zelk,
I like some things about this tree. The nebari is interesting, can you remove the moss from the bark and expose it better? As to that first branch, there is only one way to make it stronger and fuller. You must hold back other parts of the tree and let this one grow strong.

You can do that by letting the terminal candle get long for two years and then cutting back some, and doing it again. If you just let it grow wild, you will lose any taper in the branch's leader. While you are doing this, move to a more refining technique in the crown of the tree. PM me if you have questions.
