Hi, Can someone help??!?!

Hi Everyone,

I recently got a Chinese Elm and some of these leaves go black about a little black every day, I mist it maybe 3 to 4 times a day. Is this too much?? I had red spider mites but hand squished them and then damped the tree and left it outside overnight and all the bugs seem to be gone. I have moved it into powerful light but my windows are triple glazed. I was wondering if I should get pesticide or try and find more light or to stop watering it as much

3 to 4 times per day is likely too much water. Though it is difficult to say without seeing the tree in person.

Please fill out the rest of your profile. A location would really help, are you in a desert? Like Phoenix Arizona? are you in a cool northern climate like Quebec Canada? In Phoenix, daily watering might be required, in Quebec, you might only need to water once every few days.

Chinese elms as a general rule are grown as outdoor trees. THey are not usually grown indoors for any length of time. Again your location would help, maybe some information about your situation. Apartment? House with a back yard?

There are many things that can go wrong with bonsai. Seeing good, clear pictures of the problem area and the overall tree can help a lot with diagnosis.
As already mentioned your location also has much to do with how and when to care for the tree.

You mention misting the leaves but have not mentioned actually watering the soil and roots. Misting alone is not enough for a tree. Watering the soil properly is much better way of supplying the water it needs.

Any more details you can supply can be useful even if it does not seem directly relevant. Pictures often give clues you may not have even considered.

There are too many internet sellers claiming elm can be indoors. This is a new claim and was not the case a few years ago. There are few species that can be indoors.

Many "Buzzers" that would be alleviated by a small amount of research on your species.

My apologies, but In the PAST... inquiries like this have been simple "reply bait" to conjure up a fiasco....

Not likely to be earwigs HLF, there are thousands of people looking for their first bonsai and land on one of those sites and click indoor bonsai and find something they like. You can't just call shenanigans, it is not cool to new members. I got called troll about 10th post in. You either want to grow the board or you don't.

While I understand... I need to point out that I, MYSELF, am a "comparatively new member"... It has not happened to me. (accused of trolling)..

Which.. besides the playful "Shenanigans and billy goat's gruff reference"... I simply said I was skeptically awaiting pictures... and we'd been "burned before"...

What did YOU do the last time the Trolls ran through? It was pretty recently.. like 4 months ago... I'm a pretty new member, but feel I contribute to this site enough to shred your thought that I don't want to "grow the board" to ribbons...

The LAST time... I experienced pretty decent harassment...

I think that the answers are heartfelt and just add to the whole discussion board, whether the OP was nonsense or not.

Cuz truth, there's Ace Trollers and there's ones that are dumb, there is no in-between. And only one touches themselves at the keyboard. It's not the cool one.

I reckon the red spider mites are of the good guy variety, other wise you couldn't see em to know you smashed em, the bad ones are to small for smash to be an appropriate adjective, it's more of a smothering in finger oil.

Rainy weather is good for Chinese elm. If you have it in decent soil, get ready to see it growing a lot!
