Greetings from South Africa. To each and everyone of you on this site i just want to give a massive thank you.
I have lurked here since I got my very first tree about 13 years ago. Finally made an account 2 or so years back.
Well i guess every single question I've had has been asked and answered on here.
Never felt experienced enough to give an answer i felt comfortable with.
Been thinking of a way to be more active and contribute.
Cannot think of a way other than just say thank you to all.

Seriously, you guys are the bonsai's nuts.

Attached some pics of native Ficus (in development) enjoying the late afternoon Summer sun (2023).

Sizes here are from 5cm - 100cm

THANK YOU ALL!!!!20240122_065132.jpg20240122_065329.jpg20240122_065439.jpg20240122_065445.jpg20240122_065455.jpg20240122_065551.jpg

Jaw drop
These are amazing! Definitely a level I aspire to. I'm not one of the people you are thanking; I'm still mostly clueless. But I can thank you for posting this.

thinking how I had my location listed for my first post and feeling I did at least one thing right
😆

I think the best way you can contribute is to start a thread for each tree and show your work/progress over time.

I get the most from progression threads, so that's what I've been doing.

Even if you do something wrong or that didn't give you the results you wanted - show it - you learn something and hopefully help others to not make the same mistake.

Thing is I completely forget to take photos sometimes while working on trees. And then afterwards i regret it. I'll have to work on that, but yes i've learnt alot from progression threads too.

Without the new people brave enough to ask questions on a public platform this gold mine of info would not exist.

Did you just call me a testicle? 🤔

Welcome! The South African delegation to BNut is quite strong.

Dang, thanks for the reminder that I need to do this. Maybe I’ll pick 5 or so of the trees that have gotten the most changes and make threads for them this winter…perhaps after I work some of my conifers.

If the pictures aren’t organized as is, then that sounds like the excercise will be a learning experience for you as well.

Wow you are 100% correct. What an experience so far. I seem to have taken more pics than i can remember😄. Sadly none of them while repotting or doing work. Need to work on that. I'd like a reminder of what some of my trees look further down the soil surface, have to bury the bases pretty deep down to protect from this horrendous hot and windy summers in the Western Cape.

Welcome to the nuthouse. I'm digging that medium-sized ROR ficus 👍
Thanks much appreciated. I owe you an updated pic though, 2 of these have undergone some work and repotting since. Both very sentimental, the bigger 'medium' is my very first Ficus and a root over rock attempt at that. Its mostly all aerial roots that got draped over after the planting. Didn't expect them to shoot out so vigorously. Guess it's called a strangler fig for a reason. The smaller RoR is in memory of a good friend that has passed. His nickname was 'Stone'.

Both RORs look great. So the medium one (in the shallow pot) has had the twine removed?
